CHAPTER NINETEEN
Over the next couple of days, Kenny Bond became a very worried man. Abi would call him at all hours, wouldnât leave him alone. It was scary shit. One minute she was begging him to reconsider carrying on their relationship, the next she was threatening to tell his wife. He was picking Sharon up from the airport the day after tomorrow. To say he was in shit-street was an understatement.
Explaining the situation to his partner in crime in Rosieâs cafe, Kenny was peeved when Tony burst out laughing. âIt ainât fucking funny. This is my marriage at stake.â
âI know. It ainât that Iâm laughing at though. I told you the night you met me to drop off some dosh and had her in the car, she had an obsessive look and scary eyes. I bet you wish youâd listened to me now. I can spot a bunny-boiler a mile off.â
âLook, itâs her ringing again now. Twenty-seven times she rung me yesterday. I only answered four of her fucking calls. What am I gonna do?â
Tony liked Kenny. He was a shrewd geezer and their current business venture was booming. He could also sense how worried he was. âFirst thing you do is ring your phone company and change your number. Iâve had to do that twice in the past. Donât hurt in our line of business to have a fresh number once in a while anyway.â
Kenny sighed. âIâm worried if I change my number, sheâll track me down. She came across as so normal. Good job, brain, own gaff â and now this. Never fucking again will I have an affair, let me tell ya. My first and last, this. Howâs me luck, though? Only I could pick a psycho.â
âDoes she know where you live? You never told her what you do, did ya?â Tony asked, alarmed. He knew Kenny had been bang into Abigail, as heâd talked about her a lot, especially at the beginning.
âDonât be daft. I told her nothing like that. But she asked me old womanâs name and Iâm sure I told her Sharon worked with Donny up at the nursery. I thought the woman was sane, like. Perhaps I should visit her again, have it out with her once and for all? I didnât sleep last night. Sharonâll cut my bollocks off, she finds out, Iâm telling ya.â
âI wouldnât visit her again. Sheâs obviously unhinged, might stab ya,â chuckled Tony.
âIâm glad you find it so funny.â
âNah, seriously, mate, get your number changed. Either that, or just blank her calls. Sheâll soon get bored if she gets no response. They usually do. Having said that, I had one once that turned up atââ
Kenny held his palms up. âPlease donât tell me any more. I really donât fucking want to know.â
âYou sure this outfit doesnât look too over the top?â Lori asked Carl. She felt excited, but also as nervous as hell at the thought of spending time with her sons. Her biggest fear was that Brett would ask her about Eric.
